We’re a global long-term investor, with purpose in our hearts and the future on our minds.
GIC was established in 1981, at a time when the idea that a country should manage its reserves for long-term returns was unconventional. As the world’s first non-commodity-based sovereign wealth fund, GIC’s vision was original, bold and forward-looking. This spirit of boldness and courage is GIC’s legacy and inspiration, inherited by all in GIC today.
Bold Vision reveals the untold story of Singapore’s reserves and its sovereign wealth fund, born of vision, creativity and purpose. It tells of the creation of GIC and its every critical advance since. Dr Goh’s inspired recommendation that Singapore’s long-term reserves should be managed by a professional company was an unconventional idea in 1981. Each of the leaders who helmed GIC – Dr Tony Tan, Yong Pung How, JY Pillay, Lee Ek Tieng and Lim Song Guan – broke from the past during their tenures to reshape and reboot GIC and set the stage for its future accomplishments.
